Leave room for the sleeves

A black puff-sleeve top already introduces volume above the waist. Dark straight jeans provide a quiet area beneath it. Test the sleeves while reaching forward and resting your arms on a table. They should neither press uncomfortably around the upper arms nor interfere with your hand movements. A simple neckline can make the sleeve shape clearer, but it is not compulsory. Begin without other strong details and decide afterwards whether jewellery or a colourful bag would add something you actually enjoy. The sleeves can remain the main feature.

Plan the extra layer properly

A blue jacket or shirt can be tied around the waist during warmer parts of the day. Check whether the knot becomes awkward when seated and whether loose sleeve ends get in the way. The layer must also fit over the puff sleeves when you need it. Try that beforehand; a close-fitting outer jacket may compress their shape. If the arrangement feels uncomfortable, carry the spare layer in a bag or choose a roomier one. A decorative knot should not become the only useful function of the garment you bring.

Handle a shoe change deliberately

Black pumps can continue the dark base for a later appointment. Another familiar pair is possible if you walk farther beforehand. Test the jeans length with both versions so the hem neither drags nor catches on the shoe. The top should also remain comfortable during dinner or a longer seated period. A bag with room for the extra layer leaves your hands available. Finally, check fastenings, knots and sleeves together. This lets you move between outside and inside without rearranging the entire combination or repeatedly correcting the interesting sleeve shape.
